Disclaimer:
These recipes are some that I have collected through the years and some that have been given to me by friends. Please enjoy but use at your own discretion. Use caution when offering any of these treats to your dog, as they may be sensitive to some of the ingredients. Make your treats a reasonable size for your pet to eliminate the possibility of choking.

Chicken Bars
Use 1 whole or 2 half chicken breasts
3 cups organic spelt flour (spelt is a European wheat-like grain)
2 ½ cups organic quick oatmeal
1 cup organic oat bran
½ cup organic corn flour
3 egg whites parsley
5 cloves garlic
2 carrots coarsely chopped
1 ½ cups water

Combine carrots, egg whites, garlic and parsley. Cop in food processor. Add chicken in pieces and Pulverize. Add mixture to dry ingredients, followed by the water. Mix with hands. Use more or less water as needed to make dough hold together easily. Pat into three 8"x 8" pans, sprayed with cooking oil. Bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Cut while warm. Freeze to store.

Sweet Potato Jerky
Slice sweet potatoes thinly and toss lightly with flaxseed oil, soy sauce, or broth. For 3 medium sweet potatoes, use 3 tablespoons flaxseed oil and 3 Tbls. Soy sauce or chicken broth (i.e., just enough liquid to coat them). Arrange slices on wire grates sprayed with vegetable oil or on baking sheets lined with baking paper. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 hours. Turn off oven but leave potatoes in for at least an additional 2 hours to dry.

Parmesan Herb Treats
1 Pkg. dry yeast
¼ cup warm water
2 cups chicken broth
2 Tbls. olive oil
½ cup parmesan cheese
½ cup powdered milk
2 Tbls. Dried parsley
1 Tsp. Oregano

2 Tsp. Minced garlic
1 cup wheat flour
½ cup rye flour
½ cup rice flour
1 cup cracked wheat
For the glaze- 1 egg, 1 tablespoon milk

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add stock, oil, cheese, dry milk, and herbs. Gradually blend in the flours and cracked wheat. Add enough wheat flour to form stiff dough.
Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Shape the dough into a ball and roll to ½ inch thick. Using round or crescent shaped cookie cutters, cut out treats. Place on non-greased baking sheets, spacing them about ¼ inch apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits.
Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes. Remove from oven. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk for the glaze. Brush the biscuits with glaze, turn and brush the other side. Bake for an additional 30 minutes.

Chicken Liver Cookies
2 cups flour
3 Tbls. Veg. Oil
1 cup cornmeal
1 egg beaten
½ cup chicken broth
2 Tsp. Parsley
1 cup chopped cooked chicken livers
1 Tsp. Brown sugar
1 cup mashed vegetables

Combine flour and cornmeal. In a separate bowl, beat egg with oil, then add broth and parsley; mix well. Add dry ingredients to bowl a little at a time, stirring well. Fold in chicken livers and mix well. Dough will be firm. Turn dough out on lightly floured surface and knead briefly.
Roll out ½ inch thick and cut into shapes. Place on greased cookie sheet 1 inch apart and bake for 15 minutes or until firm. Store in refrigerator.

Magic Meatballs
1 pound hamburger
2 cups dry kibble
¼ cup honey
¼ cup wheat germ oil
¼ cup linatone (vitamin oil)

Grind kibble in food processor or blender. Mix all ingredients together, roll into small meatballs and freeze. Use as needed for treats or for weight gain.

Liver Treats
1 pound chicken livers
1 ½ cups cornmeal
2 eggs
2 Tbls. Molasses
½ Tsp. Garlic powder

Combine all wet ingredients first in a food processor, then add the remainder of ingredients, blend until uniform in color. Pour into baking pan and bake at 400 degrees, until it pulls from the sides or a knife comes out clean. Cut into bite size pieces. Store in refrigerator.

Oatmeal dog biscuits
3 cups wheat flour
3 cups oatmeal (uncooked)
½ cup wheat germ
6 Tbls. Margarine
¼ cup molasses
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup water

Mix together the first three ingredients. Then thoroughly mix in the last four ingredients. Dough will be stiff. Chill for 30 minutes. Roll rounded teaspoons full into balls. Flatten, place on greased cookie sheet and bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour.

Doggy cookies
3-small jars baby meat (2 ½ oz. size)
¼ cup powdered milk
¼ cup wheat germ

Combine ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Roll into small balls and place on a well greased cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with a fork. Bake in preheated 350-degree oven for 15 minutes or until brown. Cool on wire racks and store in the refrigerator, also may be frozen.

Chicken and honey biscuits
2 ½ tsp. dry yeast
¼ cup warm water
¾ cup chicken broth
1 egg
¼ cup honey
2 Tbls. Minced garlic
3 cups wheat flour
1 cup cracked wheat

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add egg, broth, honey and garlic. Gradually blend in the flour and cracked wheat. Add enough wheat flour to form stiff dough.
Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth (about 3-5 minutes). Shape the dough into a ball and roll to ¼ inch thick. Using bone shaped cookie cutters, cut out biscuits. Place on ungreased baking sheets, spacing them about ¼ inch apart. Gather up the scraps, roll out again, and cut additional biscuits.

Reward treats
¾ cup meat juice
½ cup powdered milk
1-egg
1/3 cup margarine
½ tsp. Salt
3-cups wheat flour

In a large bowl pour hot water over margarine. Stir in powdered milk, salt and egg. Add flour ½ cup at a time mixing well after each addition. Knead 3 to 4 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to make a very stiff dough. Pat or roll to ½ inch thickness and cut into bone shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 325 for 50 minutes. Allow to cool and dry out until hard.

Apple cinnamon drops
1 large apple
¼ cup honey
½ cup water
½ tsp. Cinnamon
1 cup oatmeal
1 ½ cup wheat flour
¼ cup wheat flour

Core, slice and mince the apple (use a food processor if you have one). In a large bowl, combine the minced apple bits, honey, water, cinnamon, and oatmeal. Gradually blend in the 1 ½ C of wheat flour, adding enough to form stiff dough.
Spoon the dough by rounded teaspoon onto ungreased baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart. Using the bottom of a glass dipped in the ¼ cup wheat flour (to prevent sticking), flatten each spoonful of dough into a circle. Adjust the size of the drops based on how big a treat you like to feed to your dog. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and flip each cookie to brown evenly on both sides. Reduce oven temperature to 325. Return to oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
